The HARLS-CS system augments ongoing efforts to produce detailed (1:24,000 scale) geologic maps of the rapidly developing northwest Arkansas urban corridor and it's surrounding area. Geologic mapping is supported through the U.S. Geological Survey National Mapping Program. Geologic maps produced from these projects are useful for urban planning and site location. Integration of geologic map data with very high resolution digital terrain data acquired with HARLS-CS aids development efforts by providing site-specific information on local geological units tied to detailed terrain data. In addition, high resolution multispectral imaging and field spectroradiometry may assist researchers delineating subtle geologic structures across the region.

The HARLS-CS instruments benefit several current bathymetry and sedimentation research projects . These projects are involved with mapping and measuring bathymetry and sediment depositional geometry in local lakes and reservoirs using acoustic geophysical surveys. Current research in this area focuses on sedimentation, sediment budgets, modeling of sediment infilling, and relation of sedimentation to watershed physiography, land use patterns, and limnologic evolution of reservoirs. These instruments also supplement ongoing search into how watershed physiography, land use impact sediment yield in local watersheds.
