Massive 3D point clouds, collected by laser scanners, are processed by the Polyworks software package. Processing the enormous data sets collected by 3D scanners is a challenge. The PolyWorks suite from Innovmetric has been successful in a variety of visualization, surveying, architecture, engineering, and manufacturing applications.

The PolyWorks suite supports the following functionality:

Multiple scan alignment
Polygonal model creation

Polygonal model editing

Feature and measurement extraction

Visualization and video output

In heritage preservation, the use of high-density 3D scanning surveys is a relatively new approach . Professionals from the cultural, artistic, and archeological fields can profit from PolyWorks' tools which include:

Creating polygonal models for heritage visualization, education, professional research

Modeling for reconstruction

Monitoring structural change over time

Exporting features to external software suites

Extracting measurements directly on point clouds

Examples of heritage visualization and other applications can be found at the Visualizing Rock Art Sites in Northwest Arkansas
