Benefits
1. Software for
participating institutions of higher learning: It is our goal to increase
consortium membership by two universities before fall 2003. For that
reason, we are currently developing a "proposal" system by
which potential new members, from the ranks of higher education, can
obtain free PCI Geomatica 8.2 “educational bundle” software.
With the funding provided by USGS, 30 seats of the software and two
hard-lock devices were purchased. This will permit us to set up the
three new proposed higher education remote sensing training labs with
10 seats of the PCI Geomatica 8.2 “educational bundle."
2. AmericaView
is working to establish closer relationships with software and data
vendors in order to obtain member discounts. We hope to announce such
agreements in the near future. One company, PCI Geomatics, currently
offers an AmericaView discount to educational users.
3. Members have
access to discounted Landsat 7 ETM+ data. We have the potential to deliver
georeferenced Landsat 7 data, and data products, on the same day as
image acquisition. The ArkansasView Consortium is looking for ways to
make regular membership purchases. If you have suggestions for image
acquisition dates, please contact: bruce@cast.uark.edu
4. ArkansasView,
in cooperation with the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension
Service (CES), has a remote sensing education lab located on University
Avenue in Little Rock. Free training sessions for members are held periodically
at that location. "Introduction to Remote Sensing using PCI Geomatica,"
and "Advanced Remote Sensing" courses will be taught at the
lab. We would like to offer customized classes for members. If you have
ideas for new classes contact: bruce@cast.uark.edu
5. We would like
to establish an Arkansas "Remote Sensing User Group." We plan
to meet at the upcoming Arkansas GIS Users Forum this fall to discuss
the creation of that important group. Please attend if you can.
