Java 1.4 Download for first time user

If you do not already have Java 1.4 on your machine the GeoStor application will recognize this and send you to the Sun Java site to download Java 1.4. You will only need to do this ONCE!

The following instructions ate reproduced form the Sun Java Site

Instructions for installing Java 1.4

To protect you from viruses and other "trojan horse" programs, you are first asked to confirm that you intend to allow the installer to put Java Plug-in on your system.

This "Security Warning" confirms that Verisign Commercial Software Publishers has verified that the software's electronic "signature" is from Sun, and asks whether you want to trust this installation software from Sun.

Click "Yes" to proceed.

During the download, a progress window lets you know the estimated time remaining for the download to finish. The download can take anywhere from a few minutes on a fast internet connection to half an hour or more on a very slow connection.

When the download is finished, the installer "unpacks" the files needed to continue. A dialog tracks this process, which takes less than a minute. After briefly displaying logo splash screen, the install wizard begins:

First, the installer presents the license agreement. After reading the License, click the "Yes" button to accept its terms.

Next, you are asked to confirm or change the location in which the software will be installed.

We recommend that you accept the default location, which is on your C drive at C:\Program Files\Java\JRE\j2re<version>. To accept the default location, click the "Next" button. If your environment requires that you install elsewhere, click the "Browse" button to choose an alternative installation location.

Next, you will see a window that asks you to confirm that you want Java Plug-in to run Java programs in your browser.

The install program will detect whether you have a Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser and/or a Netscape 6 browser on your computer and will check the appropriate boxes for you. Click the "Apply" button, and the installation program will proceed.

Now that you have given the installer all the information it needs to proceed, progress dialogs track the installation process, which should take less than three minutes.

A few small dialogs confirm the last few steps of the installation process, concluding with the confirmation "Installation Completed OK."
Finally, after a brief pause, an applet containing an animated Java logo appears on the installation page, confirming a successful installation:

Congratulations: you are ready to use the Java Plug-in.

After the Java Plug in installs the GeoStor Java applet will be
automatically installed.

You will see the following security dialogue

Generally you should select "Grant Always".

You will only be required to move though this process the first time you
access a new version GeoStor.
