Abstract:
This dataset contains points which represents the locations of all Community Health Clinics in the State of Arkansas. The compilation of this data is a collaborative effort between the Arkansas Geographic Information Office and Department of Health to build a comprehensive geographic database of hospitals as a component of the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS). The hospitals form a sub-component of the existing CDC Bioterrorism plan that involves the visualization application for disease detection and surveillance. A visual aid of hospital locations overlaid on current digital aerial photography, associated road names, and landmarks, were produced and provided to the local field representatives to confirm the accuracy of the location.
Purpose:
This data provides the hospital information for the state of Arkansas to track disease related data in a mapping environment, and to do so in a way that electronic map information can be transmitted quickly and efficiently to those in the public health network. The database provides locational information for use in local and regional cartographic and spatial analysis applications. It is the intention of the Arkansas State Land Information Board to facilitate dissemination of public data.

Process Description:
Manual location of Health Center from field collected data. Address geocoding was performed by the Arkanasas Department of Health. Points were edited to the database by reference to digital color infrared photography, road, and street layer. Hospitals were then provided to ADH staff for field verification and edits were made as needed.
