Architectural Visualization and Urban Analysis One of the most difficult aspects of architectural
recreation and settlement analysis is the accurate assessment and subsequent
representation of the natural and built environment. At the scale of
the city the topography and built form have historically been fairly
well represented in plan views. However this information is often difficult
to translate to three dimensions, a necessary enterprise for modeling
in the age of digital production. Information on heights, elevations,
and form variations is difficult and labor intensive to obtain through
traditional surveying techniques. The latest technologies such as 3D
profilers and Total Station with GPS, allow rapid collection and verification
of data, enabling more accurate and thorough analyses of architectural
form, leading to accurate model creation for building visualization,
reconstruction, or preservation.
