Desktop Systems

Laboratories and staff work areas have a total of 100 Windows XP color workstations. Typical configurations for research desktops are 3 GHz Pentium 4 with 1 GB RAM.

Network
The Center is one of the highest consumers of network bandwidth on campus with our remote sensing and GIS applications that often incorporate disk files that exceed one gigabyte in capacity. The Center has a switched-ethernet network running at 100MB/sec to all desktop systems and 1 gigabit/sec to two of the Center’s high-bandwidth servers. In addition, with access to the Internet II community, Center researchers can acquire and share data with colleagues at other Internet II sites at speeds up to 145 megabits per second.

Peripherals
The Center has four E-sized color plotters including a HP5000PS, multiple A/B color printers, two E-sized scanners, multiple A/B scanners, two large ALTEC flat-bed digitizers, and a wide range of other input and output devices including color cameras, video cameras, etc.
