CAST has been actively involved in research in the arena of geospatial interoperability since its founding. The Center’s Director, Fred Limp, was a founding member of the Open GIS (now Geospatial) Consortium’s Board of Directors and served on that board till 2002. He is currently a member of the OGC Interoperability Institute (OGCII). Jim Farley (CAST Technical Director from 1991 to 2001) served as OGC Vice President. Interoperability initiatives at CAST (on-going):

  • participation in the OGC Web Services Phase 3 initiative
  • participation in the 2004 NSDI Cooperative Agreement Program
  • development of MesoStor, Mesoamerica's first free on-line geospatial data delivery system
  • development of the first enterprise class statewide geospatial data system (GeoStor)

 

Interoperability initiatives at CAST have included:

  • development of one of the first interoperable web clients (IGO),
  • development of one of the first multi-state interoperable mapping applications
  • participation in the OGC Geospatial Information for Sustainable Development Pilot
  • participation in the OGC Web Services Phase 2 initiative

  • participation in the 2003 FGDC CAP:
    Expanding Sustainable Metadata Development for County and Local Government,
    Schools and the Private Sector
  • participation in the 2002 FGDC CAP:
    Clearinghouse Integration with OpenGIS Services - The Arkansas GeoStor Web Map and Feature Server Portals
  • participation in the 2000 FGDC CAP:
    Enhancing Economic Development in the Arkansas Delta Using Framework Data
  • participation in the 1999 FGDC CAP:
    Don’t Duck Metadata
  • participation in the 1998 FGDC CAP:
    The Arkansas GeoLibrary NSDI Geospatial Data Clearinghouse Node
