Kent Walker - CGI Architectural Engineer/Keyframe Animator

*Kent created a rough draft of the camera movements with the walls and floor in place to check the movements of the main character. (This file is in a zipped format.)

I started on this project in early June of 2001 using SoftImage XSI v1.5.  My job was to make an Indian hut and animate a first person walk through of the house.  The first thing I created was a simple floor and walls:

My texture remaps were high and there was no detail in the room.  My next task was to add a roof, poles that hold the roof up, ties that hold the poles up, and shelves:

...........

While I was working on the poles and ties, Aaron and Harlan were working on their respective projects.  As I finished up the house, Aaron finished many different props.  I started merging the props into the house.  Some of the tools weren’t great looking; they looked as if the would fall apart if they were real. I worked on these tools a bit.

Then, I worked on the camera movements for the animation.  I started off with the camera on the bed and it “stands up” to its full height. This led me to making the camera “walk.”  I tried many complex answers to this; but eventually, I realized that the simplest answer is usually the best and went with a simple bobbing camera effect.  I then added the “Eye’s opening” and the “Fuzzy Vision” effects at the beginning.
