The idea for this project was born out of the desire for taking watershed education to a new level. Our focus is especially that of the West Fork of the White River Watershed, in the Arkansas Ozarks. This has been a collaborative effort with several partner agencies and organizations and Audubon Arkansas, who has teamed up with C.R.A.T.E., to address that need for expanded watershed education.
The goal of this project is to introduce citizens to their resident watershed and give them the knowledge they need to become familiar with how their watershed works as a living system. Watersheds are not separate entities in themselves, but are, rather, an integral part of our natural and human-induced environment. Therefore, watershed education must be taught on that integrated level. We all live upstream. We all live downstream.
