JB Hunt Center Computer Teaching Labs
There are two main computer instructional labs (Geomatics I and Geomatics II) in the JB Hunt Center and two undergrad/graduate computer research labs, the PaleoInformatics and Rural GIS.
Geomatics I (JBHT 231) has 20 Windows XP systems with typical configurations of Intel Core 2 6600 dual-core processors at 2.4 Ghz. Each machine features 2GB RAM, 250 GB storage, and a local DVD-RW for authoring projects or backups.
Geomatics II (JBHT 228) has 16 high-end Windows XP-64 with dual monitors (one CRT, one LCD) to support stereo photogrammetric, visualization and other high end applications. Each is a quad-core system with 8GB memory.
Geomatics I and II have software installed in support of the instructional requirements in these labs. All machines have basic Windows and Office software, anit-virus software, and various additional software installed based on class needs. Specifics on the software installation is provided at on each lab page here: Geomatics I (JBHT 231), Geomatics II (JBHT 228), PaleoInformatics (JBHT 340), Rural GIS (JBHT 343).
All systems are part of the UA General Computer Lab (GACL) domain and users can access their home directories and disks from any machine.
A large student server is located in JBHT and is connected to desktop systems via 1 GB homeruns. JBHT backbone speeds are 10 GB. Students (and faculty) may request disk space as needed for their research. Classes using extensive disk assets (e.g. remote sensing etc.) will have server spaces automatically allocated.
More information about the PaleoInformatics and Rural GIS labs can be found on the Research Labs page.
Ozark Hall Computer Teaching Labs
Ozark 208 has 20 Windows XP systems with typical configurations of 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 with 1 GB of RAM and 120 GB of local storage. Each machine features a flat screen LCD monitor, and a local DVD/CD-RW drive for independent student backups. For detailed information about the hardware and software click on Ozark 208.
Ozark 215 has 15 Windows XP systems which consist of Pentium 4 processors running at 2.8 Ghz with 1 GB of RAM. Each machine has a flat panel LCD monitor, 120 GB local storage disk, and a local DVD/CD-RW drive for independent student backups. For detailed information about the hardware and software click on Ozark 215.
Ozark 208 and Ozark 215 have software installed in support of the instructional requirements in these labs. All machines have basic Windows and Office software, virus software, and the Arc 9.2 Suite. Additional software is installed based on class needs. Specifics on the software installation are provided at the details page for each lab here Ozark 208 and here Ozark 215.
All systems are part of the UA General Computer Lab (GACL) domain and users can access their home directories and disks from any machine.
Student servers are located in Ozark Hall (GEOS I and GEOS II) and students (and faculty) may request disk space as needed for their research. Classes using extensive disk assets (e.g. remote sensing etc.) will have server spaces automatically allocated.
