The Buffalo River was the first US National River and there are 150 free-flowing miles, all within the National Park. Many other rivers and streams are also nearby.

University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is both the major land-grant university and the state university and was founded in 1871. Today, the UA canpus includes more than 130 buildings and 345 acres and offers nearly 200 academic programs. The University has an enrollment of approximately 17,500 studens of wich about 14,000 undergraduate and 3,500 graduate and about 850 faculty.
