CAST has been selected as a Center of Excellence by Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Intergraph, Trimble, MapInfo, Definiens Imaging, and Skyline Software and has a multi-year CRADA (Cooperative Research And Development Agreement) with ESRI. In total the Center has received more than $15 million in hardware and software support from its private partners.
The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies is located in the new (2007) JB Hunt Center for Academic Excellence, of which it has more than 11,000 sq feet of labs and offices.
The Center has more than 100 high performance desktop systems and more than 30 larger server systems with more than 100 TB of disk. The entire building has 1 GB home-runs to all desktops and a 10 GB backbone. Commercial and Internet II connectivity are provided.
With funding from an NSF Major Research Instrumentation grant, CAST has purchased an extensive range of field instruments for remote sensing, survey, photogrammetry, geophysical survey, and related research. Surveying systems include three Leica Viva G15 GNSS and three Trimble 5700/5800 GPS receivers configured for both static and kinematic operation, a Trimble 5600 Robotic Total Station DR200+, Leica C10, Z+F 5006i and Optech ILRIS-3D (mid/long range) scanners and Breuckmann smartSCAN Color HE and Konica-Minolta Vivid 9i short range scanners, seven Trimble handhelds, 20 Trimble Juno handhelds and a 55 foot lift boom.
Geophysical instruments include a fluxgate magnetic gradiometer system, ground-penetrating radar system with 400 MHz antenna, earth resistivity and IP meter, a resistivity system with MPX15 multiplexer, and an EM conductivity/magnetic susceptibility meter.
Multiple photogrammetric workstations with stereo-eyes technology are part of the center’s configuration. There is a full complement of peripherals including extensive GPS systems, three single and dual-headed digitizers, one E-size and one-B size scanner, and a range of color output devices including three E-sized plotters, photogrammetric scanner, and numerous A/B color and black and white printers.
