Jason Herrmann is an archaeologist that is interested in the relationships between ancient humans and their environments as well as a specialist in archaeological applications of remote sensing. Over the years, Jason has contributed to multi-year projects in the United States, Belize and Bolivia, and is currently engaged in ongoing archaeological projects in Turkey, Egypt the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
Jason is presently a doctoral candidate in the Environmental Dynamics Program at the University of Arkansas, a joint degree in the departments of Anthropology and Geosciences, where he is completing his dissertation: "Ancient Human Ecodynamics at Three Archaeological Sites in the Rub'al-Khali Desert, Dubai, UAE." His research is designed to understand the interactions between prehistoric and early historic populations and their environments in the deserts of what is now the United Arab Emirates. To do this, Jason is integrating data from both traditional archaeological methods and from remote sensing sources, such as multispectral satellite images and from ground-penetrating radar surveys to understand changes in the settlement patterns of ancient peoples and the environments that they encountered.
Jason is the primary instructor for two active field programs in archaeological geomatics:
