Center for Advanced Spatial Techonologies, CAST
Geospatial Visualization and Animation Developer; 2009 - Present
Responsible for investigation in new 3D technologies to develop
strategies and workflows for creating visualizations that are
educational, informational, and engaging.
Current Projects:
Visual Impact System for Evaluating Offshore Renewable Energy - CAST is partnering with the Argonne National Laboratory to develop the Visual Impact System for Evaluating Offshore Renewable Energy for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOERME). This system will allow the user to design the spatial layout and content of an offshore facility with output in the form of maps, tabular reports and high-quality rendered images.
Heritage Visualization and Interpretation at Prairie Grove and Old Davidsonville State Parks - A project funded by the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resource Council (ANCRC) for the year 2010 will help CAST work with Arkansas State Parks to complete a two phase project for the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park and the Old Davidsonville State Park. Phase 1 is a continuation of the previous years work for the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. Visualizations created for the previous year will be incorporated into a new exhibit that will be installed in early 2011. Phase 2 will be to create an interactive online environment featuring Old Davidsonville in 1815. Both projects will bring the rich history to life through interactive online presesentations.
CI-Train - CI-TRAIN is a comprehensive cyberinfrastructure project designed to advance research and education at eight institutions across Arkansas and West Virginia. Systems, tools, and staff to provide support and training, enable research teams and institutions to pursue transformative scientific inquiry. CI-TRAIN will support technologies and enable research avenues that include:
UofA/UCLA Field Programs - The Cotsen Institute for Archaeology at the University of California, Los Angles (UCLA) and the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) at the University of Arkansas are collaborating in the offering of a series of field training programs that will introduce students to the latest methods in archaeological geomatics and geophysics.
Previous Projects:
Prairie Grove Civil War Battlefield Recreation - The Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park was the location of one of the most significant Civil War battles in the west occurring on December 7, 1862. The Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) is working with Arkansas State Parks to recreate the setting of the battle in 1862. Using historic documents and maps, the battefield recreations will showcase historic structures and other important features of the landscape as well as the position and maneuver activities of the Union and Confederate units. A web-based interactive tour of significant locations within the park will also be created where students and visitors will be able to move about and explore the recreated historic battlefield.
The Virtual Hampson Project - The Hampson Archaeological Museum State Park in Wilson, Arkansas, houses some of the most extraordinary examples of Native American pottery in North America. In 2007, researchers at CAST used the Konica-Minolta VIVID 9i to scan ~350 artifacts from the museum collection. These 3D artifacts are now available for viewing and download at the Virtual Hampson Museum.
