CAST is very active in educational outreach to K-12 students and educators. Not only are these students potential future University students, but they are also the future of our community, state, and country. An important project at the Center is our collaboration with the EAST Initiative.
CAST has been involved with EAST since its inception in 1996. The EAST Initiative now supports programs in more than 200 high, junior high, middle, and elementary schools, representing 12,000 students who learn to use map and image data and leading edge technologies to solve real world problems. As part of the EAST Project, CAST has developed a range of online course materials. Materials from many of the university courses are also available online.
In addition to the EAST Initiative, the Center supports summer educational programs that provide opportunities for high school students to become part of ongoing research and development programs.
The CADIS Project involves students in the application of various geomatics methods to important community issues while the CRATE Program involves students in the exciting world of animation, motion capture and 3D visualization.
