LeicaGeomatics Press Conference at UofAAn important element of the Center's outreach activities is connecting private sector organizations with communities and other governmental agencies that can utilize their hardware, software and services. Another important outreach relationship between the Center and the private sector involves providing access to software and hardware developed by the private sector to university students and to others through educational workshops and other opportunities that provide exposure to the hardware and software.

Many communities and other organizations have important needs for geospatial services and information. Unfortunately, the complexity of many of these systems makes it difficult, particularly for smaller communities, to know exactly what type of services or data they need. CAST plays an important role in bringing together these communities and these providers. CAST's contribution consists mainly in providing technical assistance to the communities as to the appropriate technologies and strategies. As a result, these groups are more informed consumers and they' are able to more effectively acquire the appropriate resources or services.
