InVirMet Data Repository

Welcome to the InVirMet Data Repository!

Welcome to the InVirMet Data Repository!  Here you will find a number of 3D datasets - free and downloadable - from surveys around the world!  Ever since the Center acquired the Optech ILRIS-3D laser scanner in 2003, we have been involved in numerous projects from scanning local rock art sites to scanning UNESCO world heritage sites including Tiwanaku, Machu Picchu, and others.  In 2005, CAST also acquired the Konica Minolta VIVID 9i providing us new scanning opportunities for high resolution acquisition of smaller objects and artifacts.  Since its acquisition, the VIVID 9i has been used to scan excavated artifacts at Tiwanaku, ancient frescoes at Ostia Antica, and local Native American pottery.

All of the data discussed above and more is or will soon be available for download here in the InVirMet Data Repository.  Please refer to the section on Archaeological Laser Scanning for brief descriptions on each project and also to the data links on the left (in red) to download the data associated with that project.  A big part of what makes the InVirMet Data Repository possible is the availability of free data viewers from processing softwares that we use on a daily basis. Polyworks free data viewer, IMView, allows users to view and interact with the data and to also perform measurements like distance, angles, and cross sections.  Visit the section on IMVIew to learn more and to also take a peak at some of the tutorials that we have created here at CAST to make your data viewing experience a breeze! We hope to also add the free viewer from Rapidform in the near future.
