The Center has been involved in a multi-year project in collaboration with Dr. Alexei Vranich at the University of Pennsylvania to scan and document the Pre-Incan site of Tiwanaku, Bolivia. Read a short synopsis of the project at Tiwanaku Project Details and for full details on the entire survey, refer to Geophysics and Geomatics at Tiwanaku.
There are currently two data sets available for the Templeté monument of Tiwanaku. Other data sets for the Kalasasaya, Putuni and Akapana structures will soon be added. Additional scanned artifacts and other extras will be added at a later date. Please visit the Free Data Viewer section to download the necessary software to view and interact with the data.

The Templeté (aka the Semi-Subterranean Temple) is unique from the other structures at Tiwanaku with its series of carved stone faces that line the walls. The structure was scanned at a 1cm resolution resulting in a collection of 4 million data points in the original point cloud file. The scans of the Templeté are available here in two formats 1) as the original point cloud and 2) as a polygonal mesh file. During the creation of a mesh, the data are moderately smoothed resulting in some data loss. However, the overall file size is considerably reduced resulting in a quicker download for the polygonal mesh file. For original data results, please refer to the Tiw_ Templeté_pntcloud.pwk file. |
