CAST’s 20+ full-time research staff work closely with graduate and undergraduate students and faculty in many departments with a focus on the use of geospatial methods and theory in research, teaching, and service . CAST specializes in serving the academic community by providing high quality university courses and professional short courses. University of Arkansas undergraduate and graduate students have a wide range of geospatial courses available to them at the CAST facilities and laboratories including cartography, remote sensing, image interpretation, photogrammetry, surveying, and spatial statistics, provide the students with a wide range of career options. In addition to classroom instruction, CAST facilities are used by students in both undergraduate and graduate research projects. The internship program in Applied Spatial Information Technologies offers students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in geospatial technologies.

An important project at the Center is the EAST Project. CAST has been involved with EAST since its founding, and the EAST Initiative now supports more than 200 EAST high schools, representing 15,000 students who learn to use map and image data and leading edge technologies to solve real world problems. As part of the EAST Project, CAST has developed a range of online course materials available here . Materials from many of the university courses are also available online .
