Research and development efforts in Phase I are partly designed to enhance the publicly available Fayetteville Shale Information Website (FSIW) to include watershed-related information and well production histories. This information is currently available in a readily accessible form from the Arkansas Watershed Management System (AWMS) and the protocols necessary for direct connection1 to these datasets have been established.
With energy demand projected to increase in the coming decades, the oil and gas industry will be looking to move into more environmentally sensitive areas for future drilling and production. Helping the industry do this in low-impact and responsible ways is the goal of a new collaborative research program called the University/National Laboratories Alliance.
