The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies launched Arkansas’ Satellite Mallard Tracking Project in November 2004. This online, Mallard Tracking site has been considered a great success by the Waterfowl Managers at AGFC and supports over 92,500 registered online users from around the world!
The application has enabled waterfowl biologists within Arkansas and around the world to visualize the migration patterns of more than 80 mallard ducks. The ducks have been outfitted with telemetry or gps transmitters; then released within several Arkansas and Mississippi waterfowl habitat areas. The resulting mitigration routes and landscape use patterns of the mallards have provided valuable input for both professional and amatuer resource managers alike within Arkansas, Mississippi and the Central Flyway.
