Terrestrial surveying is an important source of key geospatial information. The Center has a number of surveying instruments and projects. These include:
Three Leica GS10/15 Viva GNSS geodetic grade receivers
Two 5700 Trimble geodetic grade receivers with Zypher Geodetic antennas
One 5800 Trimble geodetic receiver
One UHF radio for RTK applications
One 5600 D2 Robot Total Station
In addtion the Canter has more than 25 mapping grade systems.
The 5700/5800 and Viva GNSS equipment is configured to work with the on-campus NetRS base station in real-time kinematic mode via CDMA cell-modems. Leica SmartWorx software is used with the Leica systems and Trimble Pathfinder Office, TerraSync and ArcPad with GPScorrect is used for Trimble-based mapping applications, while Trimble Geomatics Office and JPL’s GYPSY-OASIS II and UNAVCO’s TECQ software is used for Surveying/Geodetic applications.
