One of the collaborative projects between CAST and Facilities Management at the University of Arkansas is the mapping and visualizing light poles locations on the University campus.
This project started in 2006 in an effort to collect, manage and maintain a vast amount of data on individual locations of light poles on campus. The project was designed to incorporate data collected on the ground using GPS technology and also incorporate information about light poles using and online database for the FAMA personnel.
For visual and general purposes, a map viewer was also deployed on the FAMA website to aid in the process of reporting defective light poles by students and others on campus and be able to easily report the malfunctions through an online web form and data viewer.
This viewer provides online viewing of the light poles location information, along with the capability of selecting a light pole on an interactive map and sending the request for service directly to the FAMA personnel in charge with maintenance. The database is also being updated online on the fly by FAMA personnel to reflect any changes in information.
