Optech ILRIS 3D Laser Profiler
Optech's ILRIS-3D is a complete imaging system that offers direct-to-digital 3D models of any scene. Through laser scanning a detailed point cloud of accurate X,Y,Z values are obtained. Using various software solutions (e.g. PolyWorks) content is extracted from the point clouds into a variety of formats including digital elevation models, contours, structural elements in CAD formats, etc. The unit is portable, weighing 12 kg and can easily be used in the field by a single person. As the laser is Type 1, it can be safely used in all settings. With a 20% reflectance surface it has a range of 350 m. Accuracy in the X,Y and Z dimensions is +\- 10 mm at 100 m.
Konica Minolta Vivid 9i Close Range Scanner
Konica Minolta's Vivid 9i is a close range, high resolution 3D instrument with a scan range of 0.6 to 1.0m in standard mode and 0.5 to 2.5m in extended mode. The Vivid 9i has an accuracy of +- 0.05 mm and the precision of +- 0.008 mm. Polygon and point cloud editing software included allows users easy merging and editing of large data sets and with a built-in calibration system any lense change or environment lighting changes can be easily adjusted for.

Innovmetric PolyWorks
Massive 3D point clouds, collected by laser scanners , are processed by the Polyworks software package. Processing the enormous data sets collected by 3D scanners is a challenge. The PolyWorks suite from Innovmetric has been successful in a variety of visualization, surveying, architecture, engineering, and manufacturing applications.
Nikon Digital Cameras
Dual, six mega-pixel Nikon D100 digital cameras will provide stereo-image coverage suitable for processing via available digital photogrammetric software. Fusion of traditional photogrammetric solutions with laser scanners has been shown to be an effective strategy (Wehr and Wiedemann 2000). While the D100 is not a "true" metric camera it provides near-metric quality at a much lower price and at a much higher resolution than current digital metrics (e.g. Rollei d7). In addition to providing high resolution images, the cameras can be used independently where photogrammetric solutions are needed - such as deriving elevation when distances to objects are greater than the 350 m limit of the ILRIS-3D unit.

Trimble 5600 / 5700 / 5800 Total Station with GPS -
The Trimble TS5600/5700/5800 combination includes: (a) high performance robotic total station (b) a reflector-less electronic distance measurement capability and (c) a GPS based capability. The reflector-less unit is used to precisely (+/- 5 mm at 600 meters) locate targets placed in the laser profiler, multispectral camera and digital camera fields-of-view, while the GPS based capabilities allow all measurements to be aligned with geodetic control within centimeter accuracy.

CAST is located in Ozark Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. CAST has 7,500 sq ft including five teaching labs and three research labs offering access to a more than 100 high performance workstations and a wide range of commercial software. There are more than seven terabytes of online disk storage on five Unix and six Windows XP servers. Specialized research instruments include Optec laser scanner, Trimble geodetic and mapping grade GPS survey instruments, Duncan multi-spectral scanner, 3D photogrammetric workstations, dual-headed digitizers, scanners, and numerous large and small format plotters and printers.
