Detailed Digital Land Use Information For Metropolitan Areas

SAMPLES (links to GSI images): Sample Output of a Survey of Land Use Trends

Romanized Pronunciation: Saimitsu Sûchi Jôhô
Coordinate System: Japan Standard Regional Grid and Mesh Code System, and Local Plane Rectangular Coordinate System
Coverage: Tôkyô, Ôsaka, and Nagoya metropolitan areas.
Media: MT
Cost: "Individual Pricing"
Notes:

  • This data collection project is being undertaken through a project entitled "Survey of Housing Land Use Trends" the intent of which is to better understand changing housing/land use trends in the Tôkyô, Ôsaka, and Nagoya metropolitan areas.
  • Data collection began in 1981 and generally repeats every 5 years.
  • Compilation methodology consists of land use interpretation from aerial photos. 15 land use categories were decided upon and colored onto mylar sheets which were overlayed upon 1:10 000 scale reduced existing 1:2 500 maps prepared by local governments. The composite was then scanned. Detailed land use data corresponding to a 10m square grid on the ground was then derived.
  • Data is available in both coordinate systems noted above.
  • There are two data sets, a raster database which is available only to public organizations in Japan, and printed tabular data of land use area totals which are available to the general public. Also available to the public are hardcopy land use maps and land use change maps.
  • As previousl stated the raster data is not available to the general public. It is intended for use by government administrators and university researchers. Some of the usage restrictions that may apply to the Digital National Land Information database are listed below. The user is strongly advized to contact either the Japan Map Center or the Geographical Survey Institute with specific questions regarding usage restrictions. There is a publication entitled Kokudo Sûchi Jôhô Goryô ni Attate no Genshu Jikô (written in Japanese) to which you may be referred. It details S& ucirc;chi Jôhô usage rules.
    • 1) If you find error data you are requested to inform the Japan Map Center.
    • 2) If you have an idea for use of the data you are asked to inform the JMC.
    • 3) The words "Kokudo Sûchi Jôhô" must appear somewhere on any product resulting from the use of the data.
    • 4) After purchase of the data if you decide that you would like to use the data for a specific purpose you must file an application for permission to use the data. If and when you receive permission you may not use the data for any other purpose.
    • 5) You may not give copies of the data to anyone.
    • 6) Once permission is granted to use the data for the applied for purpose the permission is good for one year. If you wish to use the data a year after the original application you must reapply for permission.
  • The base data collection schedule is as follows:
            Metropolitan Area
    Phase Tôkyô Nagoya Ôsaka
    ------|------|------|-----
       1 | 1974 | 1977 | 1974
