1:10,000 Topographic Map

SAMPLES (links to GSI images): Sapporo Sendai Hiroshima Fukuoka
Romanized Pronunciation: Ichi man bun no ichi no chikeizu
Language: Japanese
Notes:
  • Project begun in 1983 for the purpose of collecting information on the urban areas.
  • Published because it was thought that the 1:25 000 Topographic Maps did not adequately portray urban and flat areas.
  • Users considered to be the general public, educational institutions, governments, enterprises, research institutes etc.
  • For the general public and educational institutiions, pentachrome topographic maps are sold through bookstores.
  • For users in governments, duplicated drafts are supplied for reproduction. Drafts are organized by theme (e.g. buildings, railways, etc.).
  • Production of this series is largely based on national large-scale maps at larger scales, especially the 1:2 500 National Large-scale Maps. Though the projections are different the larger scale maps are not reprojected as the difference is considered negligible.
  • Basically photographic reductions of the photogrammetrically produced larger-scale maps (National Large-scale Maps).
  • Building footprints are fairly realisticaly portrayed.
  • Use five colors (black, salmon, pink, green, purplish dark gray, blue).
  • Produced using scribe tools.
  • One-quarter of the area represented by the 1:25 000 Topographic Maps (i.e., about 25 square-kilometers)
  • Each sheet represents 3'45" of latitude and 2'30" of longitude.
  • Scale vs. Actual Distance: On paper 1cm = 100m On ground
    Projection: Universal Transverse Mercator
    Datum: Tôkyô 1949
    Ellipsoid: Bessel 1841
Index Contour Interval: 10m in flat areas, 20m in mountainous areas
Intermediate Contour Interval: 2m in flat areas, 4m in mountainous areas)
Supplementary Contour Interval: 1.0m in flat areas, 2.0m in mountainous areas
