1:5,000 National Large-scale Map

Romanized Pronunciation: Go sen bun no ichi no kokudo kihonzu
Language: Japanese
Notes:
  • These maps are used mainly as base maps for planning and management of public works of the central and local governments.
  • Part of a group of maps known as "National Large-scale Maps" (1:5 000, 1:2 500, 1:1 000, 1:500).
  • At least up until the early 90s in most cases pen and ink were used to create these maps.
  • Roads with widths or 2 meters or wider are represented at scale.
  • Occassionally, 1:5 000 scale photo maps are prepared instead of the standard type maps ("photomaps").
  • Some maps are produced using digital methods and some are produced using analog methods. Digital data is not available to the public.
