Notes:
  • This data set appears on the current Japan Map Center distributed price table of digital map information as "1:200,000 Composite Map with Basic Physical Geographical Names." Though it appears the product is a map with place names it is not, but rather simply a textual database of placenames.
  • This data set contains over 20,000 annotations from the 1:200 000 Topographic Regional Map series.
  • Included with individual placenames are: 3rd level mesh codes, the 1:200 000 sheet name, the 1:500 000 Topographic District Map name, ken code, and classification codes (no lat./longs.)
  • The data comes compressed with uncompression software on a single 1.2 MB diskette formatted for Japanese DOS. Partial extraction of data is possible with ken-code (prefecture-code) or classification code.
  • The data is importable to Japanese versions of EXCEL, Lotus1-2-3 etc. spreadsheets.
  • Hardcopy of data is available.
  • Use restrictions may apply to this data. The user is strongly urged to contact the Geographical Survey Institute for further information. Application for permission to use data may be required.
