The National Space
Development Agency (NASDA), distributes data to the scientific
community through the
Earth Observation Center (EOC) just north of Tôkyô in
Saitama prefecture, and to the general public through the
Remote Sensing Technology Center (RESTEC).
RESTEC is responsible for distribution of domestic JERS-1, MOS,
LANDSAT, SPOT, and ERS imagery (received and processed by NASDA) under
NASDA regulations. As such its use is limited to researchers in Japan
with submittal of application.
RESTEC also distributes international LANDSAT, SPOT, ERS, RADARSAT and
IRS imagery the distribution of which is regulated by agreements with
the respective supplying organizations.
NASDA charges the scientific community the cost of reproduction or
less while receiving royalties from data sold through RESTEC.
The EOC has principal responsibility for managing SAR data from JERS-1.
Space Imaging EOSAT
with its global representative network is a sales
representative for JERS data distribution both in and outside of Japan.
Pan-Asia Engineering, Ltd. of Seoul, is another sales representative.
It has an agreement to distribute JERS-1, MOS, and Japan LANDSAT data in
Korea. So, if you are not in Japan you are advised to contact Space
Imaging EOSAT or Pan-Asia accordingly.
NASDA has created a new organization,
Earth Observation Data and Information System (EOIS)
to process and disseminate data from the ADEOS and TRMM
programs. The EOC is providing free processed ADEOS data on-line for a
year.

Space Imaging EOSAT (SIE) has a world-wide, non-exclusive, license to sell JERS imagery. This means they can sell to anyone, anywhere including in Japan. Space Imaging EOSAT typically, does not refer away customers in Japan (this particularly applies to non-Japanese for whom language might be a problem) although SIE insure's that their customers are aware of their options. To date, no deal on the distribution of ADEOS imagery has been concluded with SIE.
