About Dr. Harold MacDonald and Dr. William Waite
|
University of Arkansas Libraries, Special Collections The MacDonald Imagery Collection contains imagery film from five remotely-sensed platforms: SEASAT (satellite radar imagery of sea surface), aircraft radar, Skylab, aerial photography, and SIR-A (shuttle-imaging radar-A). The collection was donated by Dr. Harold MacDonald, Emeritus University Professor, Geosciences Department, and Dr. William Waite, Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, University of Arkansas. The remotely-sensed imagery dates from the 1960s and 1970s, during the development of satellite and aircraft-based instrumentation. The geographic coverage includes mostly the United States and Central America, and some world-wide. The Arkansas Center for Space and Planetary Sciences awarded two research grants, one for the digitization and web access (2005-2006) and the second for the development of a geospatial digital library collection (2006-2007) of this historic remotely-sensed imagery collection. Collaborative research project of: University of Arkansas Libraries, Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies (CAST) and the Department of Geosciences, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
