Abstract/Summary:

Project Name: Des Arc Harbor, AR;

Reference: Albertson, E., M.C. Tuttle, and C.A. Buchner. (2000). Terrestrial and Submerged Cultural Resources Survey at the Proposed Des Arc Harbor, Prairie County, Arkansas. Panamerican Consultants, Inc., Memphis Tennessee. Prepared for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, Planning, Programs, and Project Management Division, Environmental and Economic Analysis Branch, Memphis, Tennessee.

At the request of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), Memphis District, Panamerican Consultants, Inc. (PCI) performed a terrestrial and submerged cultural resources survey within the study area designated for the proposed Des Arc Harbor, Prairie County, Arkansas during October and November of 1999 (Contract No. DACW66-97-D-006, Delivery Order No. 0014). A literature and records search indicates that no previously recorded archaeological sites or historic properties are located within the project corridor. Field and electronic survey of the approximately 26 ha. (64.3-a) project area failed to result in the identification of artifact loci or significant magnetic anomalies (four magnetic anomalies were identified, but none were considered to be representative of significant cultural resources). While existing records show a prehistoric site, 3PR1, located at the western edge of this study area, no evidence of this site was identified in the study area. The existing documentation on 3PR1 is considered unreliable as a local student generated it nearly 40 years ago. The AAS registrar has been notified via email of the project findings in relation to 3PR1. We therefore recommend that no further archaeological work is necessary within the project area.
