Reference: Bevan, B. W. (1997). A Test of Seismic Refraction at Fort Scott. Geosight, Pitman, New Jersey. Prepared for the National Park Service, Denver, Colorado.

The seismic measurements at Fort Scott. The time of the first arrival of the seismic wave was recorded at 12 points; these are marked with circles. These points form two rather straight lines, and the slopes of those lines indicate the velocity of the seismic wave in the upper soil layer and in the rock below. The equation shows how the thickness of the soil layer can be calculated.
