A number of structures at Booker T. Washington National Historic Site, including the cabin in which he grew up, have been reconstructed or replaced with similar structures. Others have been marked by stone outlines on the ground. The actual cabin in which Washington was born no longer exists, but its approximate location is currently marked with such an outline. The aim of this project was to better locate any subsurface remains still extant from this cabin, and any other outbuildings which may have been associated with the farm. At the initial phase of this search, an electrical resistivity survey was employed to spot potential subsurface anomalies. Thes anomalies will help guide further archeological testing.
