Abstract/Summary:

Project Name: Fort Scott National Historic Site (3), KS;

Reference: Dalan, R. A. (1997). Geophysical Tests at Fort Scott National Historic Site, Kansas. Office of Contract Archaeology, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Edwardsville, Illinois. Submitted to National Park Service, Denver, Colorado.

This report presents the results of geophysical tests carried out by Rinita A. Dalan in conjunction with the National Park Service Cultural Resources Training Course "Non-Destructive Investigative Techniques for Cultural Resource Management" held at Fort Scott National Historic Site, Kansas during the period from May 5-9, 1997. These geophysical tests include: 1) the collection of soil samples for determinations of mass magnetic susceptibility (X); 2) the measurement of volume magnetic susceptibility along selected transects of Geophysical Grid 5; 3) experiments conducted with a Bartington MS-1 Susceptibility Meter and field coil (search loop) to test the depth response of this instrument; and 4) vertical electrical soundings.
