Geophysical investigations were conducted at the Camp Lewis site at Pecos National Historic Park during June 1996. The project was conducted by personnel from the Intermountain Cultural Resource Center, Midwest Archeological Center, and the Rocky Mountain System Support Office of the National Park Service along with the Volunteers In Park program. The project involved a magnetic survey in an area 40 m by 300 m across the area identified with the Union campground of Camp Lewis associated with the Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass. A number of magnetic anomalies were identified in the magnetic data, including a segment of the Santa Fe Trail, a two-track trail, five circular or rectangular areas, iron artifacts, and geological material.
