High sensitivity metal detector, differential channel data from Sand Creek Village. The two coil system is very useful in recognition of shallow objects from deeper ones. The amplitude of response is highly dependent upon the the distance between the coil assembly and target object. Often smaller near surface objects will produce a response orders of magnitude higher than larger objects buried at greater depths. This masking effect can be reduced by using the data from the two coils and processing them in a differential mode as in the above image.
