Abstract/Summary:

Project Name: Fort Laramie Geophysical Project;

Reference: DeVore, S.L. (2002). Ground Conductivity Survey in the Area Surrounding the Hospital (HB-13) at Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Wyoming.

The National Park Service implemented a geophysical survey of the main portion of Fort Laramie. The multiyear project will cover approximately 6 hectares of the military post. The ground conductivity survey is part of the overall project. During June 2002, 15 20- by 20-m grid units were surveyed with the EM38 ground conductivity meter. This area is located in the original fur trading and early military cemetery (ca. 1834-1865) on the high bench overlooking the parade ground and other buildings of the 19th century military and fur trading post. Numerous conductivity anomalies were identified including the hospital steward's residence behind the hospital, several water lines both military and homesteading eras, the defensive trench, known grave locations, and concentrations of metal artifacts.
