Archeological Site Densities (State Historic Preservation Officers)

This map was created using the total number of archeological sites per county inventoried (between 1991 and 1993) by State Historical Preservation Officers (SHPO) and Information Centers, divided by the county area.

We have decided to provide the raw data used to build this map: site counts per county.
Users of this information should understand that each state is responsible for specific site data. We contacted each one and each compiled its data to compute a "total number of archeological sites per county". It is also important to realize that the data collection occured over a period of 3 years (1991-1993).
