CAST staff regularly participates in and sponsors demonstrations, tours, talks, workshops, training sessions, and meetings to promote the transfer of geospatial technologies to schools, communities, government agencies, and the private sector. Examples include CAST’s role as host of the National Consortium for Rural Geospatial Innovations in America (RGIS - University of Arkansas , Mid-South), an organization committed to improving the effectiveness of government and the quality of life in rural America by increasing the awareness and use of geospatial technologies for city, county, state, and regional governments. CAST staff work closely with local government leaders to improve the use and effectiveness of geospatial technologies. CAST also hosts ArkansasView, a consortium of colleges, universities, K-12 schools, other non-profit organizations, as well as state and federal agencies working within Arkansas , dedicated to widening the use of remotely sensed data, and other earth science data products within the remote sensing and GIS communities of Arkansas . The ArkansasView program is part of the national USGS funded program AmericaView. In addition to providing university courses and professional short courses, CAST actively supports K-12 education through its participation in the EAST Initiative. Technical support, school visits, and project design during the academic year are complemented by summer work sessions that allow students to address a variety of issues with technology driven solutions. Each summer CAST works with Northwest Arkansas community groups to host the Community Asset and Development Information System (CADIS) and Creating Realistic Animation Through EAST (C.R.A.T.E.). During the summer teams of high school and university students work to address community projects.
