MOVEMENTS
AND INVASIONS OF THE GERMANIC TRIBES
An
appropriate method for compressing the many and diverse events into a small,
comprehendible space is through an annotated timeline.
This timeline starts with the first evidence of Gothic migration in AD
150 as provided by historical records and archaeological analysis and concludes
with the sacking of Rome between August 24 to 27, 410 by Alaeric and his
Germanic tribes. The rationalization behind the selection of these dates is to
evaluate the climate regime before the 3rd century and end with the
fall of the capital of the Western Roman Empire, which rapidly leads to smaller
warring factions competing in a constant struggle to divide the spoils.
This timeline represents the compilation of the pertinent historical
events during this portion of the history of the tribes of Germania and is
potentially valuable in evaluating the times of events, which may relate to
undernutrition, agricultural productivity, climate changes, conflicts or
movements.
