The Optech ILRIS-3D is a long range, time-of-flight (TOF) laser scanner used for acquiring 3-Dimensional data of large structures or entire landscapes. The scanner operates on a time-of-flight mechanism measuring the amount of time it takes for the laser to return to the unit. It then uses this information to record the precise X,Y,Z coordinates for an object in 3D space. The result is a 3-Dimensional representation of the object - to scale - in the form of an organized 3D point cloud. With processing of the point cloud data, additional information such as measurements, cross sections, and structural elements can be derived from the

data. For the purpose of the current project, the Optech ILRIS-3D is used to obtain a 3-Dimensional representation of the rock features at each site.
