Cradle of Humankind data:

Gauteng and the North West Province are host to the palaeo-anthropological sites of Sterkfontein, Swartkrans, Kromdraai and Environs which lie to the west Randburg and Sandton, north of Johannesburg. This area is know as the Cradle of Humankind - a listed World Heritage Site . Significant discoveries of fossils have been made in this area since the 1940's.
